Union Databases & Catalogue Records

There are three British Columbia union databases of library catalogue (MARC) records:

  1. OutLook OnLine is the main union catalogue.
  2. ELN Serials is for post-secondary serials borrowing and is meant to be used by the GODOT link resolver.
  3. ELN Media is used for post-secondary media borrowing.

Our provincial Resource Sharing system relies on the integrity and accuracy of our tools. Libraries should upload record submissions to the union catalogues regularly, to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the union databases. Lack of regular record submissions may result in increasing interlibrary loan request errors that are directly related to out-dated records and irregular uploads to the union databases.

UPLOADING RECORDS TO THE UNION DATABASES

Check the Union Databases Submissions page for detailed information on upload Guidelines, ShareFILE (formerly FTP) Procedures, Record Submission Logs and more.

DOWNLOADING RECORDS FROM THE UNION DATABASES

Catalogue records can be downloaded from OutLook OnLine either via a Z39.50 search of the union databases or directly from the web interface when logged in as an Administrator or staff with cataloguing privileges.

Check-out the Download Records page for more information.
